One extended journey around the Australian Coast has been cancelled following the fatal incident of an older lady who was stranded by the vessel on a remote coastal location.

The elderly woman had been hiking on Lizard Island with shipmates from the vessel, but parted ways from the group for a break. The liner sailed away leaving her and came back later that day after the personnel became aware the woman was unaccounted for.

An extensive rescue mission found her body the next day.

Investigative bodies are investigating the tragedy, in coordination with investigators and the state coroner.

Chief Executive of the voyage organizer stated that passengers and staff on the ship were informed that the remainder of the voyage had been cancelled due to the "tragic passing and previous technical problems".

Through an announcement, he added that passengers would be provided a full refund, and said the company was working "to organize the homeward trips of the individuals via specially arranged planes".

Officials also issued an latest communication, and said they had "provided a directive to the Commander" banning any further travelers from entering the ship.

The representative said that they would visit the vessel in Cairns upon its arrival.

Timeline of Incidents

The liner first departed Cairns on the 24th of October, and was merely two days into the journey at the point of the elderly woman's death. The tropical location was the opening port on the voyage.

Travelers on the vessel - who typically pay tens of thousands of currency to join the expedition - were ferried there for a daily excursion with the choice of trekking or snorkeling.

Family Response

The offspring of the victim said that her relatives was "shocked and grieved that the liner left the location after an organised excursion without my parent".

In her statement, she characterized her mother as an "energetic elderly person" who was a member of a hiking organization.

"Based on limited details we have been told, it appears that there was a lapse of care and common sense," she said.

She continued that she desired the examination would be able to identify what "the company should have done that might have protected Mother's being".

"Based on information from the police that it was a very hot afternoon, and mum became unwell on the hill climb," she stated.

"She was asked her to head down, without accompaniment. Then the vessel departed, reportedly without doing a roll call.

"During some point in that sequence, or shortly after, mother succumbed, alone."

Operator Reaction

In a statement, the Chief Executive confirmed that the company was "working closely with authorities to support their investigation".

He mentioned that the organization was "very regretful that this has occurred" and had extended its full support to the relatives.

Maritime Business Procedures

The ship caters for up to 120 passengers with nearly fifty personnel, according to official information. It was specifically designed to access distant areas of the nation's coast and is outfitted with "tenders" - minor craft used to take individuals on day excursions.

Occurrences such as this are uncommon, and cruise ships have systems to track which passengers are boarding or getting off, according to industry experts.

"Leaving covertly or [back] onboard really isn't an choice," a specialist commented.

Shipping companies regard these procedures extremely carefully and have "sophisticated systems in place to prevent such occurrences from occurring," the specialist further stated.

"This seems to be most likely a shocking - and sad - isolated incident."
