It has been 30 years after the original Toy Story movie was released, establishing the animation giant as a leading film company and introducing audiences to iconic figures like Woody (the actor) and the space ranger (the voice talent), who are now household names.

In 2026, the next chapter is set to arrive. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed this week, offering a brief look into the storyline but keeping viewers wondering how it will resolve the conclusion of Toy Story 4.

Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Spooks the Toys

The preview shows Bonnie — who received Andy's toys when he grew up — getting a latest plaything, one that terrifies Woody, Buzz, and the crew. Bonnie gets her first tablet computer, and she is excited about it.

Theoretically, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the characters appear to consider it as a danger coming to replace them, which it likely will.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Mysteries from Toy Story 4

One thing the teaser doesn't touch on is why Woody is back with his companions in Bonnie's room. The end of Toy Story 4 depicted him set off on a new adventure with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), journeying with a fair and assisting giveaway items locate loving owners.

Surely, the filmmakers will address the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him appear in the familiar setting without warning is a little strange, however. It also makes us wonder whether his partner will have returned with him. And where is Duke Caboom (the star)?

Connections from the Previous Film

Fortunately, some elements are carrying over from the earlier movie. The last thing Woody did before departing for his new life was pass his symbol of authority to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), entrusting her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. In the teaser displays the insignia attached to her outfit.

It is hoped she is still the key figure among the group.
