Critical Role Season Four Unveils the Fighters Party

Since the launch of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with extensive world-building, a colorful mix of heroes, and a exciting storyline featuring celestial beings, evil spirits, and malevolent powers growing in influence within the city.

Note: Spoilers for the third episode of Campaign 4 lie ahead.

The Combat-Oriented Party Revealed

Episode 3 concluded with a major cliffhanger and revealed the first table of adventurers who will split off from the central cast to undertake their own adventure, distinct from the other two tables.

The Soldiers table features Teor Pridesire (portrayed by Travis), the nimble rogue (Laura), the strong-willed figure (Whitney Moore), Wicander Halovar (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie).

The Reason for Division

Given an extensive roster, it was obvious from the outset that having everyone at a single group would be unworkable.

That’s why, the first four episodes of Campaign 4 serve as an Introduction, weaving together the characters’ stories before splitting into three separate parties: Warriors, Schemers, and Questers.

What Defines the Soldiers Table

Per the DM, the warrior group is for adventurers who prefer a typically action-packed battle-oriented story mode where non-violent answers are scarce.

Upon first impression, characters like the squeamish cleric Wicander might look out of place, but the events of the latest installment demonstrate why these particular heroes are best suited for the combat party.

Why They Must Go

First, the team understands precisely where to proceed after a brutal first encounter with the antagonists.

An old friend of Thjazi—whose demise started the campaign’s events—exploited the foes for his personal gain, breaking into the secret base, assaulting Thimble, and taking all the powerful objects to sell off.

Casimir then paid off his obligations and escaped to a Halovar stronghouse in the remote area, north of Dol-Makjar, with Cyd hot on his heels.

Individual Reasons

Secondly, each adventurer has a personal reason to depart the urban setting:

  • The rogue, as Thjazi’s partner and trusted friend, wants revenge.
  • The adventurer has experience in Timmony and cautions that it is a nasty place.
  • The warrior and Wicander, having resisted his house’s orders to kill the fighter and instead freed him, have no other options.
  • But, their position as prominent individuals in House Halovar could help the group reach places they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Additionally, The grateful character vowed a life debt to The cleric for his salvation and will now accompany him wherever.

Wanted and Hunted

In addition, all of them are hunted by the powers that control Dol-Makjar for a variety of reasons, making lingering locally dangerous:

  • Thimble and The character are known criminals.
  • Tyranny and The cleric turned against the influential house and the army of fiends they are partnered with.
  • The fighter is targeted for elimination by House Halovar.

This results in them little choice but to head to the remote area in search of the antagonist.

What’s Next?

From the latest episode’s follow-up content, we find out that the combat party will not appear the following episode, leaving the rest of the cast members to round up the Seekers and Schemers tables.

Audiences can look forward to finding out which adventurers will be assigned to which table in Campaign 4’s final introductory chapter, released on the upcoming Thursday.
